About Andrew

Who is Andrew Macdonald?

I’m a proud Scotsman now living in Cape Town, pursuing my passion as a freelance photographer and videographer.

I lead photo safaris, travel to incredible places, and work with brands to tell their stories through powerful imagery.

It’s a dream I’ve been chasing for years, and the path here has been anything but ordinary.

Back in 2012-2013, I left Scotland for a year-long adventure, exploring five continents and 18 countries.

That trip sparked my love for photography and adventure, but more importantly, it was the moment Africa grabbed hold of me, and I knew I’d be back.

In 2015, I returned to Africa, earning my safari guiding qualifications and spending time in South Africa and Botswana.

Things weren’t always smooth. I lost all my belongings in a wildfire while in Botswana, which sent me back to Scotland but I was determined not to let that stop me.

By 2016, I was back on the continent, and after another round of guiding, I landed a short but game-changing photography and videography role with Norman Carr Safaris in Zambia.

That short role sparked the start of a creative journey that stretched over six years, during which I helped the company evolve into Time + Tide Africa and build a reputation for consistently strong marketing visuals.

In 2022, I was fortunate enough to tick off my seventh and final continent with an assignment to Antarctica for White Desert.

Photographing emperor penguins and visiting the South Pole was surreal, to say the least.

Since then, I’ve spent three seasons capturing the unique beauty of the white continent, with two visits to the South Pole and countless visits to the emperor penguins under my belt.

Freelancing full-time since 2022, I’m constantly chasing new adventures and fresh stories to tell. I feel most at home wherever the wild things roam — and that’s exactly where you’ll find me.
